Sarnia-Lambton is located in the province of Ontario.
Ontario was one of four original provinces that joined Confederation to form Canada on July 1st, 1867. The province of Ontario is named after Lake Ontario and is thought to have derived from a Huron word meaning "Great Lake". Today Ontario is the largest province in the country with over 12,000,000 residents.
In 1858 the world’s first commercial oil well was discovered in Sarnia-Lambton. This discovery revolutionized the world and marked a time of growth and increased prosperity for the area that lasted nearly four decades.
Home to over 128,000 residents, Sarnia-Lambton continues to grow and remains a leader in the research, development and product commercialization for the petrochemical and refining industries. Encompassing roughly 1,816 square kilometres, Lambton County is further broken down into three First Nations Communities and 11 local municipalities ranging from the urban landscape of the City of Sarnia, to rural centres such as Petrolia, Forest, Alvinston and Watford.
The area also enjoys one of the warmest climates in Canada. Its placement on the Southern tip of Lake Huron moderates the climate year-round. Winters in Sarnia, unlike the rest of Canada, are short and mild. Spring comes early and summer’s warm temperatures remain long into the autumn.
