Colleges and Universities provide education to students who have finished secondary school (high school). Generally the completion of a program at a post secondary school results in receiving a certificate, diploma, or academic degree in a given field of study.
Canada has one of the highest post secondary education participation rates in the world. Post secondary education is governed solely by the provincial and territorial governments.
Student Loans
In Canada, students may apply for financial assistance such as loans and grants for attending post-secondary education. Loans are money that must be paid back, while students do not have to pay back grants. Money is available for students who might otherwise not be able to attend school full-time because of lack of funds. In order to receive funds, students must prove that they have insufficient financial resources to meet the estimated costs of post-secondary education. The amount students can borrow depends on their individual needs and on expenses such as tuition, textbooks, transportation to school, and childcare.
