Enniskillen Township is primarily a rural agricultural area in the central portion of the County of Lambton. The township surrounds the Village of Oil Springs as well as the Town of Petrolia. The township has two hamlets within its boundaries, Oil City and Marthaville. Enniskillen has approximately 3,200 people with 1,150 households. A diversity of jobs are available, primarily in the agricultural sector or in the petro-chemical industry located along the shores of the St. Clair River in neighboring St. Clair Township.

The entire municipality is rich in history with the discovery of oil in 1858, the first commercial oil well was discovered at the site of the Oil Museum of Canada. Heritage designation has been given to the local oil field property of Charles Fairbank, the site of the Imperial Oil Ltd, Oil Springs Pumping Station.

Operated by the St. Clair Conservation Authority, the 330 acre Lorne C. Henderson Conservation Area offers the outdoor enthusiast many exciting opportunities. The park includes a nature interpretative centre and an in ground swimming pool. There are scenic camp sites that are serviced with hydro and water available for those who enjoy camping. The municipality boasts an active minor baseball program for area young people and there are three recreational parks Marthaville Park located in Marthaville, Gorman Park located in Oil City and Krall Park, each with their own baseball diamond and picnic pavilion. The Black Creek Golf Course provides outdoor recreation for the golfing enthusiast.
