In Canada, both parents often work outside of the home. There are a number of child care options which range from informal care, where children are cared for by relatives, babysitters or nannies, to more formal arrangements like licensed child care or child care centres. Licensed child care facilities, approved family care homes, and before/after school care centres are required to meet government standards and are inspected regularly.
To make child care affordable for all parents there are a number of government programs that provide support for low income families.
