Canada is a nation with two official sports. Since its founding, and until 1994, the official sport was lacrosse, a sport invented by Aboriginal peoples. In 1994, the House of Commons recognized hockey as Canada's National Winter Sport and lacrosse was re-branded as Canada's National Summer Sport.
There are many other sports that are popular within Canada. Some team sports include soccer, baseball, curling, football, and rugby. Popular individual sports include, golf, tennis, swimming, boxing, cycling, and skiing.
